Fleetguard Fuel/Water Separator — Part Number FS19820
Brand: Fleetguard | Condition: New Old Stock (NOS)
Genuine Fleetguard FS19820 spin-on fuel/water separator, new old stock from long-term warehouse storage. This is the high-efficiency fuel filter and water separator for Caterpillar equipment, crossing to Cat's own 1R-0770, 1R-0771 and 326-1644 advanced-efficiency separators. It is a large 4.25 in diameter can with a water drain and a sensor port for a water-in-fuel sensor, rated by Fleetguard at 100% water separation efficiency.
Fleetguard has discontinued FS19820. The factory's own product page lists it as obsolete, superseded by FS20007. Remaining new old stock is all that exists under this number — and for operators who have the original filter head and a sensor already fitted, the original number is often the cleaner buy.
On a modern Caterpillar diesel the fuel/water separator is the component standing between contaminated fuel and the high-pressure injection system. Water in diesel does not simply pass through: it strips the lubricity the pump and injectors depend on, corrodes precision surfaces, and on a common-rail system turns a tank of bad fuel into a four-figure repair. This is the cheapest insurance on the machine.
Condition Details
New old stock. The filter itself is unused and unopened, straight from original storage. As with all warehouse-stored inventory, the box may show shelf wear, dust, fading, price stickers, scuffs or minor crushing from stacking. The filter can has been kept sealed; any exterior marking described above refers to the packaging, not to the filtration element. Threads, gaskets, drain and sensor port are new and have never been installed on an engine. Please review all photos, as what is pictured is what you will receive.
Specifications
- Part Number: FS19820
- Type: Fuel/water separator, spin-on, with drain and sensor port
- Thread Size: 1-14 UNF-2B
- Largest Outside Diameter: 4.25 in (108 mm)
- Gasket Outside Diameter: 3.98 in (101.1 mm)
- Overall Height: 10.08 in (256 mm) per Fleetguard — but see the note below, sources disagree
- Water Separation Efficiency: 100% (Fleetguard published figure)
- Water Drain: yes
- Sensor Port: yes — 9/16-18 thread on the Baldwin equivalent
- Gasket: integral, pre-installed, plus an O-ring that must be fitted to the standpipe
- Factory Status: obsolete — superseded by FS20007
- Mounting: standard spin-on, hand tighten plus 3/4 turn after gasket contact
A height discrepancy we are not going to paper over. Fleetguard's own product page and SimplyFilter both publish 10.08 in (256 mm). Baldwin's catalogue data for the equivalent BF1399-SP and EXCO both publish 7.625 in (193.7 mm). That is a two-and-a-half inch gap and we cannot resolve it from published data. If overall height is critical to your installation, message us before buying and we will measure the actual filter and send you the figure. The OD, thread and gasket OD are consistent across every source.
Particle micron rating is not published for FS19820. For reference, the superseding FS20007 is rated 10 micron(c) at 98.7% on cellulose media, with a 199.8 psi hydrostatic burst minimum and 2.01 gpm rated flow.
Superseded & Cross Reference Part Numbers
Fleetguard FS19820 interchanges with the following. Always confirm against your own application guide before ordering.
- Fleetguard: FS19820 — superseded by FS20007
- Caterpillar: 1R-0770, 1R-0771, 326-1644
- Baldwin: BF1399-SP
- Donaldson: P550626
- Wix: 33787
- Fram: PS10264
- Hastings: FF1186-SP
- Luber-finer: LFF6771SC
One cross-reference correction worth knowing. At least one retailer lists Baldwin BF1284-SP against FS19820. That appears to be wrong — BF1284-SP is catalogued against FS19843, a different filter. The correct Baldwin equivalent is BF1399-SP, confirmed by Baldwin's own cross data, which lists FS19820 and FS20007 together with Donaldson P550626, Wix 33787 and Fram PS10264. If you were quoted BF1284-SP for this application, check it.
Features
- Two-stage function — removes particulate contamination and separates water out of the fuel before it reaches the injection system
- 100% water separation efficiency, Fleetguard's published rating — the headline number on this filter and the reason it exists
- Integral water drain at the base, so accumulated water can be drained at service intervals without removing the filter
- Sensor port accepts a water-in-fuel sensor, so the machine's dash warning system keeps working as designed
- Large 4.25 in diameter can giving substantial media area and water-holding capacity between services
- Standpipe design with a supplied O-ring, which holds fuel in the housing and aids priming after a filter change
- 1-14 UNF-2B thread, correct for the Caterpillar separator head
- Built by Fleetguard, the filtration division of Cummins, to heavy-duty standards
- Discontinued by Fleetguard — finite, no-reorder stock under this number
Application
Fits Caterpillar engines and equipment using the 1-14 spin-on fuel/water separator with sensor port, under Cat's own numbers:
- Caterpillar 1R-0770 — the widely used Cat advanced-efficiency fuel/water separator
- Caterpillar 1R-0771
- Caterpillar 326-1644 — the later advanced high-efficiency revision
This covers a broad span of Caterpillar on-highway engines, off-highway machines, gensets and industrial equipment built around the 1R-0770 separator head. Buyers should confirm fitment against the cross-reference list and their own application guide, as separator head configuration and sensor type vary by machine and model year.
Why Choose Fleetguard?
Fleetguard is the filtration division of Cummins and has built heavy-duty filtration since 1958. Fleetguard filters are validated against the same engineering standards as Cummins' own engines and are factory fill on a large share of the world's heavy-duty diesels. On a fuel/water separator that engineering shows up where it counts: the separation media, the water-holding volume, the burst strength and the quality of the drain and sensor port. A filter is the cheapest insurance policy on a diesel engine, and on the fuel side the thing it protects — the injection system — is one of the most expensive assemblies on the machine.
Returns
We accept returns through eBay's standard 30-day return request process. If the part is not what you need, simply open a return request through eBay within 30 days of delivery and we will take care of it.
Thank you for looking. We are a small parts business and we take real care in identifying, describing and packing every item we list. If anything about this part is unclear, or if you want additional photos or measurements before you buy, please message us — we would much rather answer a question up front than have you receive something that is not right for your machine.
If there is any problem at all with your order, please contact us first and give us the chance to make it right before leaving feedback. We respond quickly and we will resolve it.
